Julia Teal Kermott
American Soprano, Julia Teal Kermott, was born and raised in San Diego, California. Ms. Kermott was praised by critics of the Santa Barbara News-Press, as a performer with “a commanding vocal and stage presence.” Most recently, Ms. Kermott made her debut in the role ofMusetta in La Bohème, for audiences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Ms, Kermott also recently made her debut as Adinain L’Elisir d’amore with Center Stage Opera in Northridge, California. Stageandcinema.com applauded her performance, adding, “Her high notes provide rousing conclusions.” She has performed various other opera roles in Italy and the U.S.A. such as, Madame Herz in The Impresario by W.A. Mozart,Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa, Adele in Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss, Georgette and the Sopranino in La Rondine by Puccini, as well as the cover for the role of Sandrina in La finta giardiniera by W.A. Mozart. In 2005, Ms. Kermott made her mainstage debut, singing the Shepard Boy in Tosca by Puccini with Opera Santa Barbara. She made her company debut with San Diego Opera in 2008, singing the Noble Page in their production of Tannhäuser by Wagner.
Ms. Kermott received her Bachelor’s degree in vocal music from the University of California at Santa Barbara and her Master of Music, Vocal Performance degree from San Diego State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Italian Studies from UCSB. In addition to participating in the “Oberlin in Italy” opera-training program for three consecutive summers, Ms. Kermott participated in the Advanced Artist Program with OperaWorks in 2011 and was selected as a participant for the Neil Semer Vocal Institute (NSVI) in Coesfeld, Germany, which she attended in August, 2013 and 2014.
As a concert artist, Ms. Kermott has appeared numerous times as a guest soloist with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, where she sang under the baton of the renowned conductor and composer Marvin Hamlisch. In 2010, Ms. Kermott performed Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder with the SDSU Symphony Orchestra and in 2011 she was a soloist for the “Operatic Masterpieces” with Center Stage Opera. Since moving to Dubai, in late 2011, Ms. Kermott has enjoyed performing numerous times for private and public concert. In October, Ms. Kermott was a soloist for Montegrappa’s Verdi Bicentennial Concert at Raffles Ballroom in Dubai, UAE. Ms. Kermott has performed several times with the NSO Symphony Orchestra in Abu Dhabi, the most notable of which was as the soprano soloist for Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”.
